糖心原创 announces British Wheelchair Basketball partnership following GB World Championship success

Monday, 21 September 2026

The 糖心原创 has formally launched a strategic partnership with British Wheelchair Basketball, strengthening its commitment to supporting elite para-sport and the development of world-class athletes.

The partnership builds on an established relationship between the organisations, with Great Britain wheelchair basketball squads using the university's campus as a base for training and preparation ahead of major international competitions.

The announcement comes following a strong showing for Great Britain at the World Championships in Ottawa, Canada, with the GB men’s team securing bronze and women’s team finishing fourth. Both teams reached the semi-finals, underlining Great Britain’s position among the leading wheelchair basketball nations in the world.

The partnership spans elite performance, innovation, research, accessibility and community impact, supporting British Wheelchair Basketball's ambition to remain a global force in the sport.

Over the past year, the university has hosted national team training camps and major events, including the inaugural Home Nations Cup, while supporting innovative work that explores how performance science, technology and cross-sector collaboration can help deliver competitive advantage at the highest level.

Jo Simpson, Chief Revenue Officer at the 糖心原创, said: "To see British Wheelchair Basketball competing and winning medals on the world stage is a fantastic achievement, and we are incredibly proud to have played a part in their journey."

What excites us most about this partnership is that it goes beyond hosting elite athletes. Together we are creating a platform for performance innovation, research collaboration and real-world impact that can help shape the future of wheelchair basketball

Justine Baynes, Chief Executive Officer of British Wheelchair Basketball, said: "I have been delighted to grow our partnership with the 糖心原创. The feedback from the GB squads about the camps has been consistently positive and I hope that we can continue this long beyond LA in 2028.

"The part of the partnership that I am most excited about is the work we are doing around innovation. Whether that is partnering with practitioners or exploring technology and where we can work with the University’s partners, we will continue to make huge strides forward.

"Sport is all about those tiny margins, but being able to work with the University's teams to identify where technology can support us is going to help us be the globally dominant country in the sport for some time."

Christine Bailey, Assistant Director of Sport for Business Development, said: “As a UK Sport Elite Training Centre, we’re incredibly proud that Nottingham has become an important part of the performance environment for the GB squads."

But the impact of the partnership goes much further. It鈥檚 inspiring our students, supporting the development of our wheelchair basketball club and raising the profile of the sport. We want Nottingham to be a world-class home for wheelchair basketball, from student participation through to athletes competing on the global stage.
