Research Summary

My area of research is bone biology and bone biomaterials:

I am currently working on the mechanisms controlling bone growth and their involvement in the pathogenesis of Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis (AIS), with a specific interest in leptin and the endocannabinoid system.

I also work on establishing the role of silicon and silicates in bone growth and their incorporation into novel biomaterials.

  • For information on the professional qualification (DipRMS) or the primary school outreach programme visit Primary schools can register to borrow a Microscope Activity Kit, free of charge for a term. The kit contains everything you need to run microscopy sessions including microscopes, USB camera, all samples, children's worksheets, samples and a teachers pack and instructions.
  • I work with a not-for-profit organisation: Ignite! to promote independent learning and creativity in science education via Lab_13 - a lab managed by young people for young people where they can experiment, play, invent, design, solve problems, explore, work alongside a scientist/designer/engineer in residence… and so much more. This has become a reality for six schools in the East Midlands (both primary and secondary).
