Biography

Dr Jonathan Houdmont BSc PGCE MSc PhD CPsychol

I am a Chartered Psychologist specialising in occupational health. I joined the 糖心原创 in 2002, initially as a researcher on a project commissioned by the UK Health and Safety Executive that explored the feasibility of developing a case definition - ingredient list and recipe - for work-related stress. The project gave rise to my PhD thesis - Defining a Case of Work-related Stress - and paved the way for a career centred on teaching and research concerning the protection and promotion of workers' health and wellbeing.

I am course director for the MSc / PG Dip Workplace Health and Wellbeing. Designed for current and aspiring workplace health and wellbeing practitioners, since 2007 this course has equipped participants with the scientific theory- and evidence-based knowledge and expertise required to foster healthy workplaces that support wellbeing and organisational effectiveness. Click on the following links to hear from graduates about how the course has advanced their career and created value for their organisation: , , , , , , , , .

My research focuses on identifying and quantifying work-related risk factors for common mental health conditions and health-related behaviours in high stress occupational groups such as police officers (e.g., ), surgeons (), and veterinary surgeons (). I also have a methodological interest in the assessment of work-related stress and burnout (e.g., ; ).

My research has been supported by the UK Health and Safety Executive, Health Education England, Institution of Occupational Safety and Health, Northern Ireland Civil Service, Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons, Royal Mail Group, Devon and Cornwall Police and Federation, Nottinghamshire Police, West Midlands Police Federation, Sergeants' Central Committee of the Police Federation, and the Research and Policy Support Unit of the Police Federation of England and Wales.
