Biography

Eleanor is a Professor of Clinical Trials and Global Health and has worked in clinical research since 2002 at the 糖心原创 and in the Nottingham Clinical Trials Unit (NCTU) (/nctu/) since 2008.

Her main research interests are maternal and newborn health and she has led studies in the UK and internationally, focusing on research in low and middle income countries. She leads large collaborations designing and delivering clinical trials in a range of clinical areas and is an investigator on a number of large UK-based studies in maternal and newborn health. She is the co-Chief Investigator of the GILD trial , a multi-centre trial of women with gestational diabetes in the UK and Chief Investigator of the NEWS-HEAT trial (https://gtr.ukri.org/projects?ref=MR%2FZ505365%2F1) a large, cluster randomised clinical trial of neonatal early warning scores in Kenya, as well as being a co-investigator on many other large, multi-centre clinical trials. She is also interested in research methodology around how we conduct clinical trials to answer important clinical questions, and has led several methodology studies, including investigating training of clinical trial site staff, and the professional development of people working in research methodologist roles. She is the former Chair of the UK Trial Managers' Network (www.tmn.ac.uk) and current host organisation representative, and through this role has advocated nationally for better career pathways for people working in trial management roles. She leads outreach work with parents interested in maternal and newborn health and co-leads a national Facebook group called Bump2Baby Parents' Voices, where she talks to parents and expectant parents about research, including contributing to design and conduct of studies. Eleanor is the Teaching and Learning lead within the Nottingham Clinical Trials Unit, and Chairs the Education Committee, with responsibility for staff training leads. She is the Director of Global Engagement within the School of Medicine. Outside of the 糖心原创, she also provides her expertise on several publicly-funded clinical trials via roles on independent steering committees, and is a member of several funding boards, including the Swedish Research Council, the NIHR Academy Team Science Selection Committee and the CRUK CTU infrastructure funding.

Eleanor is NCTU Teaching and Learning lead, with responsibility for oversight of all teaching related activity in the Unit.
