Biography

David Hewson is an Associate Professor of Anaesthesia and Perioperative Medicine at the 糖心原创 and Honorary Consultant Anaesthetist at Queen's Medicine Centre, Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust.

His clinical training took place in London, Brighton and Nottingham, including a fellowship in regional anaesthesia mentored by Dr Nigel Bedforth. He was appointed a Consultant Anaesthetist in Nottingham in 2018 and moved to a clinical acdemic position in 2022. His clinical interests are in trauma, emergency and neuroanaesthesia and academic interests include medical device development, regional anaesthesia, injury and sedation practice (the topic of his PhD). He is interested in pragmatic clinical trials to assess the clinical and cost effectiveness of perioperative and peri-injury interventions. His research has been supported by NIAA, NIHR and MRC funding. He is an Editor of the British Journal of Anaesthesia Education and a member of the Associate Editorial Board of the British Journal of Anaesthesia.

Expertise Summary

He has clinical expertise in the perioperative assessment and management of patients undergoing trauma, emergency and neurosurgery. Working at Queen's Medical Centre, Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust, he is experienced the acute resuscitation and management of patients following all forms of major trauma, and his research combines this clinical expertise with interests in clinical trial delivery.

Teaching Summary

He is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. At an undergraduate level he teaches students during their Central Nervous System Module and during Critical Illness Attachments. He is the convenor of… read more
