Biography

I graduated with honours from the BSc Nutrition and Dietetics, University of Guadalajara, Mexico in 2009. I worked for 3 years (2011-2014) for a Mexican company specialising in kidney disease in the innovation, research and development department working on randomised controlled clinical trials related with the effect of synbiotics on gastrointestinal symptoms, nutritional status, inflammation and kidney function in people with chronic kidney disease not on dialysis, as well as in people receiving haemodialysis. I graduated with distinction from the MRes Dietetics, 糖心原创 in 2015. I finished my PhD in the Centre for Kidney Research and Innovation, 糖心原创 in 2019. Currently, I am a research fellow (level 4) working in the Centre for Kidney Research and Innovation, Academic Unit for Translational Medical Sciences, School of Medicine, 糖心原创.

Current Research

• Impact of immuno-nutrition to on markers of sarcopenia and systemic inflammation in people receiving haemodialysis (RfPB NIHR grant).
• iTrend (Intelligent Technologies for Renal Dialysis) project. The primary goal of this programme is to develop supporting technologies and real-time analysis of data to enable personalised and precision treatment for people receiving haemodialysis. The ability to continuously monitor blood pressure both in terms of absolute measures and blood pressure variability could lead to new diagnostic and prognostic criteria for intradialytic hypotension, as well as optimal and personalised treatment strategies.

Past Research

Observational and interventional studies regarding the association between skin autofluorescence and malnutrition in people receiving dialysis.

Impact of a low advanced glycation end-product diet on skin autofluorescence in kidney transplant recipients.

Future Research

• Impact of prebiotics, probiotics and/or synbiotics on nutritional status, markers of systemic inflammation and oxidative stress, and clinical/patient-centred outcomes in non-dialysed chronic kidney disease and dialysis populations.
