Biography

Esther Loseto-Gerritzen (PhD) is a research fellow at the Institute of Mental Health. She has a BSc in European Public Health and a MSc in Health Education and Promotion from Maastricht University in the Netherlands, and a PhD in Applied Psychology from the 糖心原创. Esther's research focuses on two key areas:

1) Reducing digital inequalities in dementia

Our societies and health and social care systems are digitalising rapidly. People with dementia are particularly vulnerable to digital exclusion, especially when intersecting with wider socio-economic disadvantage. My research focusses on exploring how we can reduce and prevent digital inequalities in dementia.

2) Improving post-diagnostic support for people with Young Onset Dementia (onset before the age of 65).

Dementia is commonly associated with older age and postdiagnostic care and support services for people with dementia tend to be designed with the needs and preferences of older adults in mind. I'm interested in exploring how we can improve care and support services for people with Young Onset Dementia and their families, and how technology can play a role in this.

Throughout her research, Patient and Public Involvement (PPI) is always at the centre. Esther is also an active member of where she is a member of the INTERDEM Board and co-lead of the Young Onset Dementia taskforce.
