Biography

I studied mathematics and physics in Mainz and Bonn, graduating as a Diplom-Mathematiker in 1999 (supervised by Stefan Hildebrandt). I obtained my PhD in 2004 from the University of Leipzig, with a thesis on "Analysis of boundary vortices in thin magnetic films" completed under the supervision of Stefan M眉ller. After various postdoctoral stages (Max Planck Institute Leipzig 2003-2004, IMA, University of Minnesota 2004-2006, Humboldt University Berlin 2006-2007) I worked at the University of Bonn as non-tenure track Assistant Professor (2007-2013), at the KIT Karlsruhe as a temporary full professor (2009-2010), obtained my habilitation degree from Bonn in 2012, and finally came to Nottingham as an Associate Professor in 2013.

I am looking for postgraduate students in Applied Analysis, a branch of pure mathematics that studies problems connected to applications with rigorous methods. Examples for possible projects can be found here, mostly connected to the dynamics of (almost) singularities. If you like rigorous mathematics and are not afraid of partial differential equations, I would be happy to receive your application.
