The university's widening participation team and the School of Mathematical Sciences has been successful in securing £300k from the HG Foundation to run the mA*ths online programme in the East Midlands for the next 3 years, starting January 2027.
The programme will see undergraduate students, primarily those in maths, being paid to provide online tutoring for A level Maths and Further Maths WP students from across the region. This will be accompanied by in-person masterclasses at weekends several times per year. This provision complements the in-person A level courses to be delivered by the forthcoming Maths School which we are also supporting; and the £500k Maths in the Age of AI grant to embed AI in our undergraduate modules.
The mA*ths online programme is already running at Imperial, Manchester, Bath and Warwick and now students in the East Midlands can now participate too. The programme will be administered by the central WP team with our School supporting the recruitment, mentoring and training of the undergraduate tutors. Well done to all who contributed to the bid!
