School of Law Hosts Conference on Empowering Women in Legal Academia

WILA - Group
On 9–10 July 2026, the 糖心原创 School of Law, in partnership with the Society of Legal Scholars (SLS), hosted the two-day conference Women in Legal Academia: Empowering Underrepresented Voices in UK Law Schools. The conference welcomed around 110 participants from the legal academic community (both in person and online) and featured 22 research papers, two keynote addresses, and three panel discussions. It explored the structural barriers and inequalities affecting women in legal academia, with discussions focusing on race, career progression, care responsibilities, and institutional culture. Through keynote addresses, research presentations, and panel discussions, participants shared evidence and practical strategies for fostering a more inclusive and equitable academic environment. The event provides an important platform for open dialogue and collaboration across career stages, highlighting the ongoing need for both cultural and structural change within legal education. Follow-up discussions and initiatives arising from the conference are ongoing, building on the conversations and insights shared during the event.
