Biography
Charlotte Schuitenmaker obtained her PhD on First Nations Storytelling in Sydney at SOAS University of London. Her research focuses on the ways in which music and sound reassert Indigenous spaces in the city. Key themes in her research are environmentalism, urban community issues, Indigenous rights, hip hop, and soundscape projects. She currently teaches in Music departments at the 糖心原创 and Falmouth University. Taught modules include "Music in Asia", "Your Future in Music", "Global Music Studies", "Hip Hop Histories" and "The Music Business."
Previous teaching included 糖心原创 Skills Tutoring, MA Dissertation Supervisor, and assisting teaching in the postgraduate module Theory and Method in Ethnomusicology at SOAS. She holds a research master's in Art Studies, a master's in Music Studies, and a bachelor's in Musicology from the University of Amsterdam.
Charlotte produces the podcast "Movements & Sounds" on as part of her research. She has production and marketing experience in music festivals and concerts for over 10 years, including the SOAS Concert Series, 107 Projects in Sydney, Roots Festival in Amsterdam and, Lowender Cornish music festival. She is the founding co-director of the Lunova music festival in London.
