Glass in Hellenistic, Roman and Late Antique Sparta

Kalliopi Nikita

The project is an interdisciplinary investigation of glass in Hellenistic, Roman and Late Antique Sparta (3rd century BC - 7th century AD). Selected assemblages of glass objects that found during rescue excavations in Sparta (Archaiologikon Deltion 49-53) will be explored archaeologically and scientifically. The aim of the research is to understand technology, production and function of glass within the social context of Sparta as this is set within the broader archaeological framework of the Hellenistic, Roman and Late Antique Aegean
