Nottingham Festival of Words 2014 Programme now live

The School of English is pleased to be a partner in this year's Nottingham Festival of Words. The dazzling line up of events and diverse range of host venues pay a fitting tribute to Nottinghamshire's rich literary heritage.

The School of English at Nottingham will host a whole day of the festival on Friday 17th October, with a number of events delivered by School staff and students on campus in the beautiful Park Campus surroundings.

The Letters Page	, editor of The Letters Page, a ‘literary journal in letters’, discusses letters, letter writing, and launches the fourth issue of this enthralling magazine ()
New Writing	Readings from recent graduates: join recent graduates of the 糖心原创’s as they read from their work.
Creative Writing and Cognitive Poetics	How can we talk about creativity and stylistic choices in systematic ways? What does our best current knowledge of language and mind tell us about the process and effects of creative writing? And how can writers help linguists to understand language, creativity and imagination? We have the answers here! Join , , Niki Valentine, and in lively discussion.
Rights or wrongs: the plagiarism debate	Poet Ira Lightman has become known for his work on uncovering plagiarism in the world of poetry. He joins a panel including poet from the School in exploring the grey areas between plagiarism and legitimate influence.
Ali Smith in conversation with Jon McGregor	Renowned author Ali Smith will be reading from her latest book, Man Booker long-listed how to be both, and discussing it with Nottingham author, . Born in Inverness in 1962, Ali now lives in Cambridge. She is the author of Artful, There but for the, Free Love, Like, Hotel World, Other Stories and Other Stories, The Whole Story and Other Stories, The Accidental, Girl Meet Boy and The First Person and Other Stories. The event will be followed by a book signing.
