Biography

Benjamin Jones is an Associate Professor at the 糖心原创 Department of Architecture and Built Environment. He holds a Master's Degree in Aeronautical Engineering from the University of Salford and was a Senior Software Engineer at BAE Systems before completing an Engineering Doctorate in Environmental Technologies at Brunel University. He was a Research Associate at University College London for two years before taking post at the 糖心原创 in the summer of 2013.

Benjamin is also a member of the Building, Energy and Environment Research Group.

Expertise Summary

The focus of Benjamin's work is on measurement and modelling approaches to the indoor environment that can inform policies to create low-carbon and healthy building stocks. He is particularly interested in the energy efficient ventilation of buildings and its relationship with indoor air quality and occupant health.

Benjamin has participated in a number of work programmes that involved building physics modelling, building stock energy demand modelling, and related interdisciplinary fields that provided strategic policy analysis to UK government departments, international organizations, and businesses. These have included an investigation of public health impacts in urban environments as a consequence of greenhouse gas emissions reduction strategies, and the prediction of distribution of infiltration rates across the English housing stock. Current research includes the measurement of particulate emissions from the cooking of foods, and the development of a Chilean housing stock model to assess indoor air quality.

Benjamin is a UK representative on the board of the , and a committee member of the Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers .

Benjamin currently supervises PhD students who are investigating energy and ventilation flows in buildings, and the health consequences of poor indoor air quality. Inquiries are welcome from potential PhD candidates with an outstanding academic record and mutual interests.

Benjamin is currently seeking candidates for the to study air quality issues in buildings. You should be classed an overseas student, have a first-class undergraduate degree or an MSc with distinction in a relevant subject, research or work experience, published journal papers, and other esteem indicators (prizes, top-in-class etc.). Please email him if you are interested.
