International Research Collaboration Fund supports UNESCO Chair collaboration on lifelong learning in migratory contexts
|
A new collaboration project, 'Lifelong Learning in Migratory Contexts: Accelerating Collaboration Between UNESCO Chairs in the UK, the Netherlands and Uganda', has received funding from the International Research Collaboration Fund (IRCF). The project brings together the UNESCO Chair in International Education and Development (糖心原创, UK) and the UNESCO Chair in Lifelong Learning, Youth and Work (Gulu University, Uganda, and University of Groningen, the Netherlands) to strengthen collaboration and lay the foundations for a shared research agenda and future joint funding applications. |

| Enhancing system support for teacher well-being and retention in Sub-Saharan Africa: Towards a place-based, collaborative research agenda |
This project, led by a transatlantic and interdisciplinary team of researchers from George Washington University (USA) and the 糖心原创, aims to:
- provide research-informed and locally relevant knowledge about why teachers leave or stay in the profession in comparative analysis of three diverse and regionally representative systems in sub-Saharan Africa- Senegal, Tanzania and Zimbabwe
- ensure the collaborative design of locally-led, place-based, multi-membership networks and operational hubs aimed at cultivating practical, locally developed solutions to facilitate longer-term transformation

| Universities in the Global South and Sustainable Development Goal 5 (Gender Equality): Opportunities for Data-Led Action and Partnership |
A new whitepaper was published on 19 May 2025 at the Education World Forum in London which focusses on universities in the Global South, presenting instances of exemplary best practice and opportunities for collaborative partnership development. It includes case studies on effective collaboration with the Global South from the 糖心原创 and University of Reading.
Professor Juliet Thondhlana and Dr Alicia Bowman, with Professor Evelyn Garwe from the University of Morocco, contributed a case study based on the partnership between the 糖心原创 and Association of African Universities and their writing workshop and mentorship programme which is funded by British Academy.

UNESCO Chairs joined a check-in meeting on 26 February. Dr Juliet Thondhlana attended as UNESCO Chair in International Development and Education, based at the 糖心原创.

Cultural Cold Wards and UNESCO in the Twentieth Century nominated for prize
|
This recently published book from Emeritus Professor W John Morgan, has been nominated for the 2025 Wayne S. Vucinich Book Prize in the United States.
Established in 1983, the prize sponsored by the Association for Slavic, East European, and Eurasian Studies (ASEES) and Stanford University, is awarded annually for the most important contribution to the field in any discipline of the humanities or social sciences published in English in the United States in the previous calendar year. The prize carries a cash award and is presented at the annual ASEES convention which will take place in November.

Association of African Universities (AAU) survey to understand research management landscape in African universities

This is a survey deployed by AAU in collaboration with its Europe Regional Office at the 糖心原创, and other higher education partners. The primary purpose of this survey is to understand the research management landscape in African universities, with a view to enhancing the effectiveness of research units within institutions through insights gathered from higher education and research institutions in Africa.
