Resources relating to the impact of industrial action

Tuesday, 13 October 2026
Members of the University & College Union (UCU) at the 糖心原创 are undertaking discontinuous strike action from Wednesday 30 September until Friday 11 December 2026.

'Discontinuous strike action' means strike action taken on select, non-consecutive days, rather than one continuous period of strike action. We apologise for any disruption to your studies.

While we expect strike action will not impact the majority of students, we don't underestimate the amount of concern this may cause – nor the effect it may have on those who are impacted. We will continue to support you and your studies during this period and below are some resources that you may find useful.

The changes we are making in our Future Nottingham programme will help us to become financially resilient so we can invest in our teaching, our research and our students, and to develop a more consistent experience for our community.

We know that change of this scale is not easy, and we do not underestimate what it means for many of our colleagues and students. We are doing everything we can to support our community through this process.

Missed learning

Where scheduled learning events are interrupted by industrial action, your schools and departments will explore options to reschedule learning wherever possible, to provide catch-up resources through Moodle, and to extend deadlines where appropriate.

Your schools or departments will always endeavour to let you know in advance when a learning event is cancelled but this may not always be possible. If you do encounter unexpected, missed teaching, please let us know using our so that we can assess impact and provide appropriate support.

Complaints and compensation

If you are demonstrably affected by industrial action, a complaint can be raised through the Student Complaints Code of Practice – Industrial Action process, where the circumstances of your complaint can be considered in full. You will need to submit evidence along with your complaint, so please keep a record of any disruption to your studies. The service can be consulted for advice at any point throughout the process.

If you incur reasonable out-of-pocket expenses because a timetabled teaching event is cancelled at short notice due to industrial action, you may apply for reimbursement. Please read our claims procedure before submitting a claim using the .
