Go! Greener competition results

Wednesday, 21 January 2026
Congratulations to Nightingale Hall for saving the most electricity last term!

Thank you to everyone who took part in the Go! Greener halls competition last term to see who could save the most electricity. By working together to reduce energy use, you have shown that small daily actions can make a meaningful difference.

Congratulations to Nightingale Hall for securing first place with an impressive 16% reduction in electricity usage! Look out for further information soon about your prize.

It was a close competition with Newark, Melton and Florence Boot halls also all reducing their electricity use by more than 10% - well done!

Together, all halls saved 10,129 kWh of electricity, equivalent to 1.96 tonnes of COâ‚‚. This is enough to power an average UK home for 9 months, or is the same as two return flights from Manchester to New York.

The results were calculated by comparing each hall’s electricity consumption against the same period last year, ensuring a fair comparison between halls of different sizes.

Nearly all of the halls that took part were successful in reducing their electricity consumption and carbon emissions compared to their historical average use. Together, these reductions represent a significant cut in electricity use and carbon emissions.

Get involved

Your actions have contributed to a greener, more sustainable campus and we hope you’ll continue these into the future. From turning off lights, taking sorter showers and unplugging devices there are lots of small changes that you can make that add up to a significant overall reduction.

There are also lots of other ways to get involved:

  • The Wilding Campuses initiative continues in 2026 with lots of activities to get involved in.
  • Win more prizes on Green Rewards There are a few weeks left of the Energy Challenge on the Green Rewards app. You’ll now earn double points for completing energy activities - plus, complete more than two and you’ll be entered into a prize draw to win one of four £20 vouchers.

  • The Term 2 Go! Greener halls competition kicks off soon. This time, the focus will be on reducing waste. Look out for more information soon!
