The Future Nottingham 2 (FN2) Strategic Case for Change was approved by University Council in November 2025. Since then, the programme team has been gathering feedback on the proposed strategic direction and the development of future structures.
Throughout March, we held three student engagement sessions and a series of drop鈥慽ns across our campuses. Thank you to everyone who met us on campus or attended a student engagement session to share their thoughts, ideas, and questions.
What we’ve heard so far
We wanted to share back some of the key insights we have heard from you across campus drop-in sessions and engagement sessions to date.
Top priorities for students:
Employability, careers, and student wellbeing are the top areas you wanted leaders to prioritise when considering potential changes.
Awareness and understanding:
- Of the upcoming changes, you told us you are most aware of course changes (60% indicating it's the proposed change you've heard about most).
- You want clearer information on the proposed college structure and course impacts.
- Postgraduate researchers want clarity on how changes will affect their research, careers, and opportunities.
- You are mainly hearing about the changes through university communications and social media.
Current student temperature check:
- Reactions are mixed, with most of you awaiting further updates and information on the proposals.
- You stressed the need to maintain clear lines of communication and support.
Further information that would be useful:
- Regular, clear email updates with short, digestible summaries of the proposed changes.
- More clarity and greater transparency on the proposed changes including course closures, potential long-term impacts, and rationales.
Next steps and further engagement opportunities
We are currently developing our approach to student engagement for the summer period (May–September). Insights gathered so far, including your preferences on how you would like to be communicated with, are helping us shape this plan. We aim to continue engagement with as little disruption as possible during the exam period.
As part of this next phase, we are exploring:
- Further engagement opportunities, including sessions organised by Faculty
- Tailored engagement with postgraduate researchers
- Tailored engagement for students on impacted courses
These activities will help inform the programme as it moves towards key decision points later this year. All feedback will be considered in detail and shared with senior leaders to inform the ongoing development of the FN2 Final Business Case, which is expected to be submitted to University Council in September this year. Both the Future Nottingham Strategy and Steering Committee (FNSSC) and University Executive Board (UEB) will see detailed feedback and engagement reports.
If you would like to continue sharing your thoughts in more detail, you can provide written feedback at BR-FN-Feedback@nottingham.ac.uk.
Thank you again for all of your contributions so far.
