The 2026 National Student Survey (NSS) results have been released demonstrating an improvement in our mean positive score across all but two questions.
Over 7,000 of our students took part in this year’s NSS, taking the time to tell us what they think we do well, and what they think we could do better.
We saw improvement in all but two questions, with the areas you rated most highly being how good our staff were at explaining things (Q1, 93.97%), how easy our staff were to contact (Q15, 90.85%) and how our library resources support learning (90.11%).
Our biggest improvements in this year’s results can be seen in two of our high priority areas Student Voice and Assessment and Feedback. We saw strong improvements on Student Voice themed questions ‘Q24: How clear is it that student’ feedback on the course is acted on?’ ‘Q23: To what extent are student’ opinions about the course valued by staff?’ as well as improvements on questions on assessment and feedback such as ‘Q11: How fair has the marking and assessment been on your course?’ and ‘Q14: How often does feedback help to improve your work?’
Whilst we can see improvement and positive feedback in these areas, we are committed to doing more, in particular to improving your experience of Assessment and Feeback, and in strengthening the Student Voice at UoN. We are working in partnership with the Students’ Union to develop shared principles for Student Voice so that we can make positive changes inspired by you. On Assessment and Feedback, we are working with staff to ensure there are clearer assessment frameworks to make marking more transparent. We have also developed training for staff to provide effective feedback to you.
Staff across the institution will spend the next few weeks analysing survey responses and identifying areas for improvement. Feedback like this provides the basis for improvement and change at the university – find out what recent changes have been inspired by your feedback.
The next National Student Survey will launch in January 2027, with those who are final-year undergraduate students at that point eligible to participate. In the meantime, we always invite your feedback, either via student reps, Student Staff Fora, or our Education and Student Experience (ESE) teams. Your feedback helps us to improve life at UoN for everyone.
