The School of Chemistry congratulates Eric Masika, a Year 4 PhD student in Robert Mokaya's research group, who has been awarded a Vice-Chancellor's Achievement Award for being an exemplary Student Ambassador. The School is very pleased that Eric has received acknowledgement for all that he has done to promote the University and support its staff during his time at Nottingham.
UK Recruitment and Events Manager, Nathalie Mortimer, supported the recommendation of Eric for an Award: ‘[Eric] consistently performed the role [of student ambassador] beyond expectations. He has been one of the longest-serving student ambassadors and has set the bar high for others to follow…Feedback from visitors has always been full of praise for Eric, not just for his cheery and friendly persona but also the quality of information he imparts at these critical recruitment events’.
Eric has also been involved in the International Office’s Welcome Programme in which assistants are the first point of contact for newly arrived students. It is an intensive week and requires hard work and the ability to think on your feet. ‘Eric is perfect for this role as his warm, friendly approach make students feel welcomed immediately.’ And last year when he was made Senior Team Leader he ‘demonstrated his ability to work on his own initiative as a team leader as well as being an enthusiastic motivator and supportive member of the whole team.’ Rosemary Gibson, Senior International Officer.
