Bringing together the researchers behind the UK's most powerful MRI scanner and world-leading advances in wearable brain imaging technology, this special event will explore how new imaging innovations are helping researchers and clinicians understand more about health and disease, tackle some of healthcare's biggest unanswered questions and shape what comes next for science, medicine and patient care.
Our speakers:
Professor Richard Bowtell
Richard is Director of Sir Peter Mansfield Imaging Centre and Professor of Physics here at Nottingham. His research involves the development of new techniques and hardware for magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and their application in the biomedical sciences. Richard is also project lead on our new National Ultra-High Field MRI Scanner Facility, which will become the home of the UK’s most powerful MRI scanner.
Professor Matt Brookes OBE
Matt is Professor of Physics at the 糖心原创 and a pioneer in the development of wearable magnetoencephalography (MEG) - a new technology in the form of a wearable brain scanner that has potential to transform the diagnosis and understanding of a number of neurological and psychiatric disorders, including autism, epilepsy and dementia. Matt co-founded Cerca Magnetics Limited to commercialise this technology, working with some of the world’s largest children’s hospitals.
Dr Lara Carr
Lara Carr is Director of Research & Impact at The Epilepsy Research Institute, whose mission is to radically advance research for the 1 in 100 living with epilepsy. Lara works closely with the institute’s teams, leadership and partners to strengthen research capacity, secure and grow research funding, foster collaboration and, most importantly, ensure that research is informed by lived experience and leads to meaningful impact for people affected by the condition. Lara holds a PhD in Psychology from Royal Holloway, University of London, with research focusing on interoception and its links to social and mental health.
Paul Ramsbottom OBE
Paul is chief executive of the Wolfson Foundation, a charity which funds widely across research and education in the UK. Paul takes a wider interest in issues relating to philanthropy in the UK as a speaker and writer. He has undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in History from the University of Oxford and is an Honorary Fellow of Corpus Christi College, Oxford.
