Biography

Aina Yazrin Ali obtained her MPharm (Hons) degree from the International Medical University - Uni of Strathclyde (Glasgow, Scotland). She then obtained her Masters in Clinical Pharmacy in the area of pharmacovigilance and PhD in Pharmacy from the Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) in the area of pharmacogenetics. She is a registered pharmacist with the Pharmacy Board of Malaysia. She is now an Assistant Professor at the School of Pharmacy, ÌÇÐÄÔ­´´ Malaysia. Aina has more than 20 years of experiences in various pharmacy settings including clinical pharmacy (Paediatric ward pharmacist and Therapeutic Drug Monitoring Pharmacist), pharmacy practice and academia. Her research experiences are within the area of clinical pharmacokinetics, pharmacogenetics and pharmacovigilance. Her current research interests include pharmacotherapy within the area of renal, endocrine and cardiovascular diseases.

I am actively engaged in the teaching and learning of Clinical Pharmacy and Pharmacy Practice across the Bachelor of Pharmacy (Honours) (BPharm) and Master of Pharmacy (MPharm) programmes. Prior to this, I had been involved in postgraduate training and education within the Master of Clinical Pharmacy and Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) programmes, contributing to the development of advanced clinical and professional pharmacy competencies.

Current Research

My research interests are in the area of pharmacokinetics and pharmacogenetics which are important in determining the best treatment options and adjustments for patients towards achieving optimal pharmaceutical care. Apart from that, I am also interested in the area of clinical practice involving non-communicable diseases specifically in the management of patients with hypertension as well as type 1 and type 2 diabetes mellitus. My previous work was on the effects of cytochrome P450 genetic polymorphisms (CYP3A5, CYP2C19 and CYP2D6) on the antihypertensives management of chronic kidney disease patients.

My current research works are on public health awareness on chronic kidney disease, management of kidney disease and diabetes mellitus, dermatological conditions and hypertension management.
