Biography

After my BA at the University of Leicester, I won a Clarendon Scholarship to undertake my MSt in English (1700-1830) at St Edmund Hall, Oxford, and returned to Leicester for my AHRC-funded PhD. Since completing my doctorate in 2022, I have held various teaching and research positions at the University of Leicester, De Montfort University, and University College London.

I have teaching experience on the following undergraduate modules at the ÌÇÐÄÔ­´´: 'ÌÇÐÄÔ­´´ing Literature'; 'From Talking Horses to Romantic Revolutionaries: Literature, 1700-1830'; 'The Self and the World: Writing in the Long Eighteenth Century'; as well as 'Writing and Place'. I have also been a tutor for the MA in Applied English on 'Gothic Literature', 'Literary Constructions of Madness', 'Approaches to Literary Studies', and 'Vampire'.

Before I came to Nottingham, I taught and convened undergraduate modules in English Literature at the University of Leicester and De Montfort University. In 2023, I became an Associate Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and will be submitting my application to become a Fellow before the end of 2026.

Current Research

I have interdisciplinary research and teaching interests in the literature and material cultures of the 'long' eighteenth century, particularly focusing on women writers, book history, and literary sociability. Digital editing tools and approaches are related interests in my work on print and manuscript letters.

I have recently started my Leverhulme Trust Early Career Fellowship (May 2026-April 2029) on 'Shakespeare's Clio: Charlotte Lennox (c.1729-1804) as Translator-Critic'. My project analyses what Lennox's pioneering role as a translator-critic of Shakespearean sources reveals about the playwright's growing eighteenth-century reception as national icon as well as developing traditions of source study during this period and beyond.

I am also finalising a revised manuscript of my thesis for publication as a monograph on women writers and novel criticism between 1740 and 1810, and research for my forthcoming book has been funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council and the Huntington Library, San Marino.
