Biography
I am an Assistant Professor in the Department of Cultural, Media and Visual Studies (CMVS) at the 糖心原创. I completed my PhD at CMVS in 2016. I hold an MRes in Film and Television Studies, also awarded by the 糖心原创 in 2008.
Previous to teaching in academia, I was a Multimedia Artist and Graphic Designer. I worked as a designer, developer and consultant for technology companies and arts organisations, and later specialised in Educational Technologies. I completed a MSc in Multimedia Engineering at Nottingham Trent University in 2005.
I am the author of The Films of Pedro Costa (Edinburgh University Press, 2020) and co-editor, with Tiago de Luca, of Slow Cinema (Edinburgh University Press, 2015). My work appeared in, among other volumes, Portugal's Global Cinema (I.B. Tauris, 2017) and Migration in Lusophone Cinema (Palgrave Macmillan, 2014).
I co-edit the Edinburgh University Press . As peer reviewer, I have collaborated with publishers Tamesis Books (Boydell & Brewer), Taylor & Francis, Edinburgh University Press, among others. I also regularly contribute with peer review activities for several international academic journals. Some of my most recent contributions are for (AIM), (Intellect) and (Taylor & Francis).
I am a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (HEA).

Expertise Summary
My research expertise is on Lusophone, Spanish and Latin American cinemas and contemporary European media industries. My research and teaching interests also include contemporary filmic genres in global cinema, transnational media and dialogues between cinema and the "white cube".
My other focus of research and teaching concerns the cultural impact of obsolescence in contemporary media cultures. I am particularly interested in contemporary analogue cultures and in negotiations between analogue and digital technologies and formats, as a way of rethinking current post-digital shifts. I am also interested in media cultures related to urban scavenging and craftivism, as well as cultural phenomena related to the Slow Movement.
Teaching Summary
Currently I convene and/or teach, and supervise UG and PG students working on Transnational Screen Media topics.
In 2025-26, I convene and/or teach the following modules:

- Global Media and Cultural Flows (Semester 2, First year module)
