Zoology - The Timperley Scholarship - 2025 Entry. Household income below £25,000

Five Excel in Science internships are available in research labs within the School of Life Sciences (SoLS) for the academic year 2021/22.

Eligible students are those who:

  • are in year 2 of any degree programme run within the School of Life Sciences
  • have a desire to learn more about the research environment and might be considering a PhD
  • are receiving Core Bursary.

Each internship will last for the entire 30 weeks of the academic year and represents a commitment of 10 hours/week. A stipend of £2,850 is available to students who are receiving the university’s Core Bursary.

(Life Sciences students only).

The Cameron Gifford Scholarship

Award Value: £500 payable only in the first year of study.

To be eligible, you must meet the following additional criteria:

  • Candidates must have received their secondary education at a state funded school in the UK. Priority will be given to candidates who have received their secondary education at a state funded school in the North East of England (e.g. the counties of Durham, Northumberland, Teesside, Tyneside and Wearside )
  • Priority will be given to mature students (age 25+)

The Franks Scholarship

Award Value: £2,500 payable only in the first year of study.

To be eligible you must meet the following additional criteria:

  • Priority will be given to students who are 30 years or above on entry to the course and who can demonstrate a strong ambition to enter General Practice.
  • Other factors considered in the allocation of this scholarship include any relevant extra responsibilities or commitments you have/have had (e.g. Students Union Society/Club involvement, voluntary/charity work) and/or any specific difficulties/challenges which you have faced or expect to have to overcome as you work towards your degree (e.g. family commitments, ill health, a disability, financial difficulties).

Medical Physiology and Therapeutics Year One Scholarship

There is one award aimed at Medical Physiology and Therapeutics students which is payable only in the year you start your course. General criteria for this award:

  • Have Home* funding status. 
  • Be in receipt of all or part of the means-tested element of the student loan for living costs, and have applied for their maximum entitlement. 
  • Be prepared to submit a personal statement to show their interest in Science. 
  • Not be receiving any external scholarships. 
  • Be expected to attend at least 80% of all scheduled taught classes. Failure to do so may affect eligibility for this award, or result in a successful candidate's award being withdrawn. 

For students commencing the course in September 2025 Award Value: £1,000 payable only in the year you commence the course. To be eligible you must meet the following additional criteria:

  • Be registered on year 1 of the full time BSc Medical Physiology and Therapeutics course at The ÌÇÐÄÔ­´´.
