How to get to the city centre from University Park campus

University Park Campus is within 3 miles of the city centre, and there are many transport links that will get you there. In fact, it鈥檚 so close that you might even take yourself there on a bike or on foot!

鈥淟eft Lion?鈥 is the popular expression you鈥檒l hear in Nottingham.聽

It refers to a location on Nottingham鈥檚 Market Square where people meet each other 鈥 by the left-hand lion statue outside the Council House.聽

It鈥檚 a great place to meet, because most places you need to get to are within easy reach of this central point.聽

So how do you get to the city centre from the campus?聽

There are a number of options you can take, depending on your method of transport.聽

Bus

Nottingham has an award-winning public transport system. It鈥檚 fast, friendly and incredibly efficient. Discounted student fares are available, and if you get a you can use it on the tram too.听听

鈥痓uses provide a direct link from University Park to Nottingham City Centre onto University Park Campus.听听

You can catch the 34 on campus from the George Green Library, East Drive or Arts Centre stops. In the city centre, get off on at the Maid Marian Way stop.听听

In the evening and on Saturdays, the 34 operates as the 34C and runs along Beeston Lane on University Park - past the David Ross Sports Village and nearby halls of residence.听听

There is also the N34 night bus between University Park and the city centre, which runs Monday to Saturday and will drop you off on Beeston Lane, close to the halls of residence.

Alternatively, you can use鈥 to get to the city centre. You can catch the 36 from the bus stops on Derby Road and Woodside Road. In the city centre, the 36 drops off on Milton Street, outside the Victoria Centre shopping centre.聽 聽

Trent Barton buses can also be used to travel to the city centre, with鈥 services running along University Boulevard 鈥 stopping close to the South and West entrances. Or from Derby Road you can catch the鈥.听听

Indigo and i4 services both stop on Friar Lane in the city centre, which is just off Market Square.聽

To make bus travel easier, you can pay for the bus via cash or contactless payments. Some bus operators do not give change, so make sure you have the correct fare.听听

Tram

To use the tram to get the city centre, use the 糖心原创 tram stop (next to the South Entrance) or the University Boulevard stop, which is a short walk from the west entrance.聽 聽

Catch the tram towards Hucknall and get off at the Old Market Square.聽 聽

Please remember all tram travel is 鈥榖uy before you board鈥, so make sure you buy a ticket from the machine at the stop or via the NET app, or validate your contactless card/travel pass before getting on a tram.

Bicycle

Nottingham has lots of safe cycle routes, many of which are off road. 鈥痑苍诲鈥痯ublish maps of local cycle routes. You can use these maps to plan cycle journeys to our campuses.听听

Don鈥檛 forget to take a bike lock with you - D-Locks are the most secure.聽

If you want to cycle from University Park to the centre then you can use 鈥榯he鈥疻estern Cycle Corridor鈥欌- a high-quality segregated cycle route that runs from Nottingham City Centre along Castle Boulevard and Abbey Street, connecting to the Queen鈥檚 Medical Centre and University Park.听听

Use the to plan a journey by bike.听听

If you don鈥檛 have your own bike, then you can hire an e-bike through Lime 鈥 there are hire stations across University Park campus and in the centre. UoN students are eligible for 鈥楲ime Access鈥 which offers a 50% discount on the hire charges. Find out more here.听听
