Finance, Accounting and Banking Network
The Finance, Accounting and Banking (FAB) Network is Nottingham University Business School's external engagement initiative for the Department of Finance, Accounting and Banking (FAB). It connects academic staff and students with industry professionals, employers and partner organisations across finance, accounting, banking, risk and fintech - bringing academic learning closer to professional practice.
About the network
The FAB Network was launched on 19 June 2026 at our FAB Networking Event Day. It was created to give students direct exposure to industry professionals, real business challenges and career pathways, while giving partner organisations a structured way to engage with the department's teaching, talent pipeline and research.
Since its launch, the Network has grown into a portfolio of recurring activities: student competitions, roundtables and an annual networking day; connecting FAB with organisations including EY, PwC, Nottingham Building Society, Capital One, Cadro, OBU Investment, British Business Bank, Irwell Insurance Company, Mercia, Nomura, RSM, and the Worshipful Company of Insurers, among others.
What the network does
The FAB Network:
- runs student competitions and consultancy challenges with industry partners (e.g. Nottingham Building Society, EY, Capital One), giving students real briefs, professional supervision, and pathways such as summer placements
- hosts roundtable events bringing finance, accounting and banking professionals together with students for small-group conversations on industry trends, practical skills and career expectations
- facilitates guest lectures and case studies delivered by industry professionals
- organises the Annual FAB Networking Day, bringing external partners and departmental colleagues together to share updates, showcase successful collaborations and identify new opportunities
- builds a repeatable engagement model that supports student employability, industry partnerships and the department's external reputation
- supports research collaboration and knowledge exchange between FAB academics and industry, from data access and case studies to joint projects and applied insight
Network membership
The FAB Network brings together a diverse community of members from both within and beyond the University, creating opportunities for collaboration, knowledge exchange and professional engagement across the finance, accounting and banking sectors.
Internal membership includes academic colleagues and students from Finance, Accounting and Banking programmes at both undergraduate (BSc) and postgraduate (MSc) levels.
External membership comprises alumni of Nottingham University Business School, along with professionals, practitioners and organisations working across finance, accounting, banking, risk management, financial services and fintech.
Membership is intentionally open and inclusive. Rather than operating as a formal advisory board with fixed terms of appointment, the network continues to grow organically through events, professional connections and member introductions. This flexible approach enables the FAB Network to expand its reach, strengthen industry engagement and foster a vibrant and evolving community of expertise.
